KOTA KINABALU: Upko is holding a seminar and workshop on the development of Orang Asal (indigenous people) in conjunction with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People 2017.
The one-day event at Narada Hotel in Putatan on Tuesday (Aug 8) is expected to see participation of 250 people from all the party’s divisions including Perak.
Three guest speakers have been invited to present their papers namely Prof Datuk Shamsul Amri Baharuddin, Prof Dr Juli Edo and Tony Paridi Bagang.
Shamsul will be speaking on the “History, Definition and Challenges Face by the Indigenous People in Malaysia” while Juli’s paper dwells on the “Definition of the Orang Asli as Indigenous People” and finally Tony will be speaking on “Issues of the Indigenous Community in Sabah and Proposed Solutions.”
Acting President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau who is also Science, Technology and Innovation Minister would be closing the seminar cum workshop at about 3.30pm.
Findings in the seminar/workshop in the form of resolutions would be handed to the Government.
